I’m not just a book on a shelf

by | Oct 28, 2022

I can’t be who you want me to be
But I can be myself!
I am who I am, and that’s all there is
I’m not just book on a shelf

I have my own story
I have my own plot
I am my own character
I am who I’m not

I fill my own pages
With my very own words
I’m me to one hundred percent
Not just two-thirds

I hope you can see me
I am who I am
I hope you can love me
I’ll do the best that I can

Lost in an image
Imagination takes flight
But don’t get too lost
Don’t loose me from your sight

I’ve walked on the edge
I’ve been lost in my dreams
But in the end it’s just me
I am how I seem

Maybe I can’t live
The life people want me to live
But I can give you myself
That’s all I can give

True to my own
True to just me
I’d be happy with you
I’d be happy and free

So here’s to a life
Simple and self
Please just accept
I’m not just a book on a shelf

Open me up
Dust me right off
But let’s just be us
Not strive to be toff

Let’s write our own chapters
And just be who are
Let’s stay on the ground
Not drift to far

For life can be happy
Simple and free
Let’s not try to be people
We’ll never be

Me just as me
And you just as you
Us as just us
Two just as two
